At first, I thought my husband's idea to buy a rice cooker (yet another small kitchen appliance) was a pretty dopey one. In the past several months, I have already purchased an Instant Pot, a NutriBullet, a Soda Stream, and an air fryer. Not to mention all the other small appliances that already called my cabinets and counters home - the slow cooker, the stand mixer, the electric griddle, and the food processor, just to name a few.

For context, my husband has witnessed several instances of me making rice. This usually involves me mumbling some choice words as water bubbles and burns all over the stove. I can never get it right. I tried the microwave for a while, but that also turns into a hot, sticky mess. So, I guess he wasn't that off base in suggesting a rice cooker.

Finally, I relented and bought a small rice cooker. It was so tiny that it was cute. When it arrived, my husband (always looking to get the best bang for his buck) asked "Can you cook pasta in a rice cooker? Maybe you can use it for that too?" Lo and behold, Google says you can. And we probably eat just as much, if not more, pasta as rice. But that cute little rice cooker was too small for the task, so I returned it and sized up.

After I cooked my first pound of pasta in the rice cooker, I told my husband "You're a genius!" No more getting out a pot, boiling the water, or keeping an eye on the time and doneness (y'all know how that kind of efficiency makes my heart flutter). I just put the pasta in the rice cooker, cover with water, and hit "cook rice." It's a-ma-zing. Of course it's great for rice too. And according to this article, there is so much more I have to learn about what my rice cooker can do! For a $30 rice cooker from Amazon, I am feeling pretty psyched about the possibilities.
